Hesitation about studying to work in biotechnology

Hello,
I am currently in the first year of Chemistry at the IUT had reindeer.
I chose this course because in the end end I had a very vague idea of what I wanted to do later, and I thought that chemistry is present everywhere (this would leave me open door).
However, since the returned my career is a bit more refined and now I wonder if I'm in the right sector to do what I want later.
I am interested in biotechnology in general but especially biotechnology environment (pollution, biomass ..) and marine (microalgae etc)
I am also interested in agronomy because I think that we can not continue to feed the world by continuing on the path that we took (misuse of fertilizer etc ...). I learned about many different agronomic technology "green" (agroforestry, Association other leguminous plants etc ...)

I think that biotechnology is a promising sector for the future but I do not know how to access because it is a multidisciplinary dominates from what I could understand.

My question is: can I access this area had a chemistry or is that a forced Bioengineering (agronomy option) is most suitable for me? Knowing that for the moment I do not fulfilled me in this chimie.Je had said that I would like to pursue engineering school if my results allow.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer me and read this big pad!

  1. A priori it is probably possible to hang the corresponding university courses after a DUT Chemistry (but check with the universities directly). After a DUT Chemistry, you also have the opportunity to try to get into an engineering school admissions on file, or (competitions agro C2 the year of DUT, or contests C after a year of prep ATS post-DUT) .
Look on www.concours-agro-veto.net the information on competitions and therefore the different schools accessible C2 post-contest or C to go see if the schools you are interested.

  2. Hello, already thank you for taking the time to answer me.
Then I was able to see on the site contests agro vet and I noticed that although the C2 contest is open to people from a chemistry had very few people are eventually accepted by this route.
is it because they have (much) less knowledge than other bio or because there are very few candidates from chemistry who apply for this contest?

I let myself again until the end of the year to reflect but other specialized schools (or not) in biotechnology are not accessible folder, but only after a forced bioengineering and that is what the dilemma. .. The chemistry had not pleased me more than that but losing a year bothers me a bit ..

  3. In my prep (BCPST, High chateaubriand, Rennes) I know a guy who was not accepted in the second year, which went to the IUT Quimper (bio engineering) and is now at AgroParisTech. And there is nothing special that guy, I mean it's not a genius, you know. He just worked on arriving at the IUT. So: bump and remain hopeful
